Makoni warns youths against violence

Mavambo/Kusile/Dawn (MKD) President, Dr Simba Makoni cautioned youths not to mortgage their future on the altar of pecuniary rewards from desperate politicians seeking political power at all cost.

The warning follows a sharp increase in politically motivated  violence over the last three weeks.

Writing on his twitter page, Dr Makoni said youths are being used to settle political scores and by so doing they are being turned into perpetrators of political violence.

‘The perpetrators, and the victims of the violence, are young people, ostensibly at the instigation of older people, called leaders,” said Dr Makoni.

The former Zanu PF politburo member, who broke ranks with Mugabe in 2007 to form MKD,labelled youths who are being used to settle political scores as failures.

saka, hazvinei kuti uri webato ripi;  wanangu, rambai kushandiswa kuponda hama dzenyu munopikira jeri nyaya isi yenyu,” said  Dr Makoni.

Dr Makoni, who is also the former minister of finance said political violence is barbaric and a sign of desperation.

Recently, Newsday reported the violence that erupted between Zanu PF and MDC-T supporters which saw Zanu PF supporters partnering with the police to fight   MDC-T supporters.

This was the second episode of violence in Harare South after MDC-T and Zanu PF supporters clashed a week before the incident, when the latter wanted to disrupt a rally by the former.

The violent clashes reportedly left over 13 MDC-T supporters injured alongside an unconfirmed number of Zanu PF supporters.
